However, the overall picture was changing. The efforts from hardware makers, Linux kernel devs, and game manufacturers are making more and more games on Linux. A previous year more than one thousand games were released on Steam which includes Linux support. To bring best Linux support for Intel hardware in cloud-based deployments, Intel’s open source technology center has been working hard on its Clear Linux distro from past few years. Clear Linux distro is mostly focused on workstation/server performance. However, the developers are right now working to bring the support for Steam. Intel Developer Arjan Van De Ven has tweeted an image that clearly shows Steam running on Clear Linux distro- The image was spotted by Phoronix.

— Arjan van de Ven (@fenruspdx) December 29, 2016 According to Phoronix, Clear Linux will ship with the latest mesa stack including Vulkan drivers. The Clean Linux distro is optimized for better performance on Intel hardware, it even added a games bundle. So, it will be interesting to try out Gaming on Clear Linux distro. Right now, Clear Linux distro just offers accelerated graphics when using Intel hardware and the Radeon or NVIDIA proprietary drivers don’t work. You can play Steam OpenGL/Vulkan games easily because it doesn’t ship with high-end graphics. There are high hopes that in future, Clear Linux will ship support for dedicated graphics which will help Clear Linux distro to became a true gaming Linux distro.
