The running episode shows Elliot Alderson used a Pwnie Express Pwn Phone as a mobile platform to run a custom script he has written, CrackSIM. Which he describes as “a dream device for pentester” Pwn Phone is a powerful penetration testing device which makes it easy to evaluate wired, wireless and Bluetooth networks. Therefore, it is not surprising to see in on Mr. Robot. The more awesome part is that Pwnie Express is giving users a choice to build their own PWN phone and to buy it. Pwn phone is built on Kali Linux and it features a 4.95 inch HD touchscreen and comes up with more than 100 open source testing tools. Pwnie Express said, “Pwn Phone custom Android front-end and ‘one-click’ pentesting applications and software updates render it the ideal choice for pentesters who are on the road or conducting a company or agency walk through.” The Pwn Phone is the newcomer in the connected device hacks on Mr. Robot whereas a majority of hacks performed by fsociety are done via devices- femtocell, Raspberry PI, & Bluetooth sniffers. Earlier Pwnie had cleared that they don’t overlook the illegal use of penetration testing tools and devices. However, pentesting is essential, and having the relevant tools is the part of the process There are “bad guys” who are attempting to determine vulnerabilities and breach networks to steal or modify data or just crash systems, all for illegal purposes, usually monetary gain and they have almost every tool needed. Therefore, white hats should be equally well-equipped.
