Many WhatsApp users ignorantly click on malicious links which then redirects them to fraud website which is displaying huge discounts coupons in the name of popular shopping sites. We all know very well that the WhatsApp is the most popular messaging platform through which messages, news travel much faster than any email. So, it is not surprising that this platform is prostrate to scams, deception, and fake messages. As the hackers are simply taking advantage of two big organizations simply to convince users to click on the malicious message attachment which contains the names of major organizations in India that includes the NDA (National Defense Academy) and NIA (National Investigation Agency). But, hold on, we all should stay aware of that these malicious documents that are circulating via WhatsApp messages are typically Excel, Word, and PDF files. According to the report by the Economic Times, “central security services in India have circulated a notification to the NDA and NIA, since it is believed that the WhatsApp attacks are attempts to target people in uniform.” Here is what the officials told the publication, “As these two organisations are very popular and known within the country and abroad and there is a curiosity about them, it is possible that it may affect the mobile phones of people interested in these subjects. However, it has been analysed that the men and women in defence, paramilitary and police forces could be the target groups.” However, this is not the first time cybercriminals have used WhatsApp to target users. These threats simply spread through legitimate-looking word documents which were sent via WhatsApp, which could then simply steal all the sensitive information from users, including online banking credentials and other data as we told earlier.
